Cooling Tower

This former glass coating factory’s cooling tower stood unused for many years while the rest of the old factory was occupied by Artworks Foundry. As part of this adaptive reuse project, the tower was converted to a residence for visiting artist overseeing production of their sculptures.

The tower became a landmark for the entire foundry complex. The old exterior redwood siding was removed in order to reinforce the structure, add a new roof and stair. Placing the siding back with its unpainted side facing out revealed its texture smoothed by years of pouring water. (for Noll and Tam Architects)
